Use case · Forecast with confidence

A forecast the whole team
stands behind

Confidence is computed from the record rather than typed into a field, concentration is named before the review starts, and nothing moves band without a person putting their name on it.

The board

The quarter, by stage and confidence, shapes, not a spreadsheet. Commit, high confidence. Best case, moderate confidence. Pipeline, low confidence Confidence comes from the record: activity, committee coverage and how each stage has actually converted for you.

Owners

Each band has a person behind it, reviewed together, not submitted upward. "I can defend Commit. Best case has two deals in it I would not put my name to." Tomas Berg, revenue operations

Risk

Two deals carry Commit, and both run through one contact each. Committee coverage on both sits at a single stakeholder. Either one moving role or going quiet takes the band down, and nothing else in the quarter is close enough to replace them. Concentration.

Your call

Three moves offered: Multi-thread both deals before the next review; Move one to Best case and say so in the review; Pull two Best case deals forward to cover the gap. Nothing changes band without a person changing it.

Resolved

Second stakeholder engaged on both deals, Tasks on the owners, due before Thursday. Commit unchanged, Held because the risk was addressed, not hidden. The number survives being questioned. Concentration addressed. Confidence recalculated from the record.

Deliverables

Forecast board, Bands, deals, confidence and the reason for each. Change log, What moved band this week, and who moved it. Actions, One per flagged deal, owned and dated. Published to the revenue team, filed, the two concentration actions owned.

Close

A forecast the team will stand behind.

One board, a confidence on every stage, one number the team owns. A coded simulation. Not connected to a live account.

Your own quarter, reviewed with Tomas Berg in revenue operations, where two deals carried the commit band between them.

How it works

Four steps, and none of them is typing.

  1. 1

    Bands as shapes, with confidence.

    Forecast

    Sample
    • Commit

      high confidence

    • Best case

      moderate confidence

    • Pipeline

      low confidence

Confidence comes from the record: activity, committee coverage and how each stage has actually converted for you.

Commit, best case and pipeline, with the confidence on each computed from activity, committee coverage and how that stage has actually converted for you before.

  2. 2

    Each band names its deals.

    Forecast

    Sample

“I can defend Commit. Best case has two deals in it I would not put my name to.”

    Tomas Berg, revenue operations

The review argues about deals rather than about a spreadsheet, because opening a band shows what is in it and why each one sits there.

  3. 3

    Concentration is a flag.

    Forecast

    Sample

Two deals carry Commit, and both run through one contact each.

    Concentration

When two deals carry a band and both run through a single stakeholder, the band is one role change away from moving. Multi-thread both, move one down and say so, or pull cover forward.

  4. 4

    Every band move, named.

    Documents

    Sample
    • Forecast board

Bands, deals, confidence and the reason for each

    • Change log

What moved band this week, and who moved it

    Board published

The board publishes to the revenue team with a change log of what moved this week and who moved it, and an action against each flagged deal.

The risk beat

When something turns, it tells you and shows you the moves.

Here the turn is: Two deals carry Commit, and both run through one contact each. Three moves were offered and a person took one: multi-thread both deals before the next review.

  2. 2

    Explanation

ConcentrationRead from committee coverage, not from size
  3. 3

    Options

    • Move one to Best case and say so in the review
    • Pull two Best case deals forward to cover the gap
  4. 4

    Human choice

Multi-thread both deals before the next review

A person presses one. Nothing is sent or written until then.

  5. 5

    Resolution

    The number survives being questioned.

Every band names the deals inside it, the confidence on each and the reason for that confidence, so the forecast review argues about deals rather than about the spreadsheet.

Questions

The honest answers.

Where does the confidence come from?

From the record: activity, buying committee coverage and how that stage has actually converted for you. It is computed, not typed in, and you can see what is driving it.

Can the owner override it?

Yes, and the override is logged with their name and reason. A forecast people cannot change is a forecast people stop using.

What counts as concentration risk?

When a band depends on a small number of deals and those deals are thinly threaded. It is read from coverage rather than from deal size.

Does it show currency figures?

The board shows the shape of each band and the deals inside it. The commercial detail lives on the deals themselves, where it belongs.
